180 teams to compete at Fireworks softball tourney
Contributed by: Julie Patterson on 6/20/2007

About 180 girls softball teams from across the United States will compete in the 2007 Colorado Fireworks Girls Fast-pitch Tournament June 23 to July 1 at the Aurora Sports Park.

Roughly 400 college recruiters will be attending this tournament in search of some of the best girls softball players in the country.

"We have a slogan that states 'Simply the Best,' and I believe we really are simply the best," said Craig Brooks, the tournament's owner and director. "It offers the greatest exposure for potential college recruiting of any tournament in the United States."

The Colorado Fireworks Girls Fast-pitch Tournament started 38 years ago in Boulder and moved to Aurora about a decade ago. "I've been to facilities all across the country, and the City of Aurora facilities and support are by far superior to anywhere else," Brooks said.

Pool play is slated for June 27 and 28, with tournament play scheduled for June 29, 30 and 31. The quarterfinals, semifinals and finals also will take place on July 1.

All games are open to the public. For game schedules and other information, call Rose Williams of the Aurora Sports Office at 303-326-8700 or visit www.cofireworks.com.

The Aurora Visitors Promotion and Advisory Board is a sponsor of the tournament.

Twenty-nine sports tournaments are happening in Aurora this year. In addition to the Colorado Fireworks Tournament, other major tournaments coming up this year at the Aurora Sports Park include the Fusion 3 v 3 Youth Soccer from July 21 and 22, Summer Sizzler Youth Soccer from Aug. 3 to 5 and the USSSA Men's West World Adult Softball from Sept. 20 to 23.
