What happens in Vegas never happened
Contributed by: Erin Di Paolo on 8/30/2006

I keep thinking I am going to get sick and tired of Las Vegas, but a funny thing keeps happening: I don't.

Maybe it's because each time I go, I experience new and different things. Or maybe it's because I have been blessed to go there three times in the past two years with various people. Regardless of the reason, I am not tired of Vegas. In fact, it holds a special place in my heart. Funny, I know, but read on.

Several weeks ago I embarked on a unique adventure: I went on a trip with three girlfriends. Now, I have gone on many trips with friends, but never with more than one at a time because I am a one-on-one person. So it was with much fear and trepidation that I entered this trip, hoping and praying that it would go well. My prayers were answered; it went better than I could have imagined.

Needless to say when you get four women together, you are going to have some issues. It is inevitable. But none of the issues were major and we managed to somehow overcome them, with the help of some retail therapy and Jimmy Buffet's Margaritaville.

Of course, The Blue Man Group and Mystere, two must-see Vegas shows, helped us to muddle through. And I would be remiss if I did not mention sunbathing and people-watching. And, yes, even a little bit of gambling was thrown in for good measure.

But there is much to see and do in Sin City that is really not sin at all. Of course, it goes without saying that there is much to do and see that is sin. But I promised my friends I wouldn't go into that part!

We stayed at The Mirage Resort and Casino, made famous years ago by Siegfried and Roy's show, complete with white tigers, some of which still make their home at The Mirage.

The Mirage has one of the best, if not the best, pool areas in Vegas and, unfortunately, many people know this. It is very hard, if not impossible, to score beach chairs at the pool unless one arrives by 10 a.m.

This is not an easy task if one was out until the wee hours of the morning the night before! If it weren't for the chair issue, I would recommend The Mirage, without reservation (pardon the pun). It has an erupting volcano and some of the best fountains and foliage you will see on the strip. Of course, the white tigers are not to be missed. The buffet restaurant, Cravings, has an excellent Sunday champagne brunch with every kind of food imaginable.

As I stated before, Mystere and The Blue Man Group are incredible shows. My friend Melissa and I sat in the front row for Mystere and in the 18th row for The Blue Man Group. Both shows are especially appealing because they encourage audience participation which makes all the difference in the world. Seeing the shows really added to our Vegas experience. I advise anyone who goes to see at least one show, even if you have to buy the cheap seats.

If you love to shop, The Forum shops at Caesars are amazing. Make sure you take plenty of money, however, because most shops are expensive. I found a $2,000 pink Versace dress that was to die for and it was actually a steal at 40 percent off! There are a few affordable shops there, including The Gap and Victoria's Secret.

Even with all the excitement that Vegas provides, I must say my favorite part about the trip was down time with girlfriends. All of us have husbands and children and rarely get the time to spend three hours eating and sipping champagne while engaging in thought-provoking conversation, teeter-tottering between raucous laughter and gentle tears.

We seldom have the time to spend hours walking through a shopping mall, trying clothes on and coveting $500 shoes and $2,000 dresses. We don't even go out for drinks very often when we are at home in Denver. Too many other things take priority.

Yes, I can say, without a doubt, that my fondest memories from this trip are the crazy, zany moments that the four of us shared; the things we said and did that the rest of the world will never know about.

And I would not want it any other way. Melissa, Tip, and Lori: thank you for the memories. I love you all.
