Blog Entry 28 of 96 Charmaine in the city

I've called the Denver area home for more than two
decades now. But this urban/mountain city is still full of surprises. I'll be posting my adventures here, as I explore local eateries, shops and sharing birthday and vacation photos. And once in a while, I'll throw in a music, movie or food review. I hope to keep this blog interactive, so don't be shy to suggest places I should visit. And check it out: I'm on Brendan's List. Rock on!

What a year it has been
Contributed by: Charmaine Robledo/YourHub.com   on 12/11/2006

It certainly has been about 365 days of fun, tears, new experiences and changes. Inspired by Karin Malchow's and Brendan's blogs, I will also post my recap of this year at YourHub.com.

I first have to say that I'm very proud to be a part of YourHub.com as a community journalist. I've met many cool folks and got to see places I haven't explored before. We've been doing a lot of new and exciting things online and in print and I'm grateful to have a pretty awesome job to go to everyday.

What were some of the highlights of my 2006?

I got to vote for the first time at an actual polling place. The first time I did vote, which was for the 2004 elections, I did it by absentee ballot. I didn't mind too much that this year, I waited in line for about two and a half hours. It was worth it and I got a sticker in the end.

I walked three miles during Race for the Cure. It was my first marathon-type event and I got to spend it with some of my co-workers. I think I'm going to do it again next year.

Damon and I had the most fun-tastic Fourth of July. We watched the Rockies and the Rapids play and got soaked by monsoon-like weather during that week. Awesome fireworks, though.

I cruised around Lone Tree and Parker and made about 10 u-turns during that trip. Getting lost is always a good way to get to know your town.

YourHub.com, the Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post all moved into brand spanking new digs. My desk is bigger, the views are better and there's a Starbucks downstairs.

I took Damon to an Alice in Chains concert at the Fillmore. I didn't get to see the band because yetis were standing in front of us but it rocked.

We spent our Thanksgiving visiting Damon's dad and his family in Carbondale, which is near Glenwood Springs. I got to see the hot springs, walk downtown Glenwood and spotted deer on the side of the road. It was my first trip out to the Western slope, so it was a good time.

I'm hoping these last few weeks continue to be great. I'm looking forward to spending Christmas with my family and getting new pants. Hope this year was good for you, too. You should post your recap online and tell us how it went.
