HOSPICE HOSTS 6th ANNUAL HOLIDAY TREE LIGHTING CEREMONY

WHAT: Denver, CO - The Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony to remember loved ones and to benefit the Hospice of Saint John will be held on Friday, December 4, 2009, 6 - 8 PM

WHERE: The Hospice of Saint John, 1320 Everett Court, Lakewood. The ceremony will be held in an oversized, heated, and lit tent in front of the Hospice. Free parking is at the nearby Safeway Store on Garrison and 14th. Transportation to and from the Hospice will be provided in decorated, horse-drawn carriages.

WHY: To celebrate the memory of loved ones at a traditional tree lighting celebration. This ceremony offers moments of comfort and inspiration by spreading "love and light" during the holiday season. Free and open to the public.

DETAILS: The Holiday season is a difficult time for anyone coping with loneliness or loss. Holidays are full of memories of family and friends. This event offers a way of "finding community" with others.

Serenity Angels collectables are given to those who purchase lights for the professionally decorated 65-foot spruce tree - each light remembering a loved one.

This Tree Lighting Ceremony is inspirational and is designed to ease the soul and touch the heart. In true Holiday tradition, this program will include special children's craft projects, live entertainment and words of comfort followed by a reading of memorialized names and the dramatic lighting of the 65-foot tree. Complementary refreshments are served.

HOW: Space is limited. To purchase memorial lights, call Shannon Clifford, Development Manager at 303-865-7206 or email: sclifford@hospiceofsaintjohn.org

HOW TO COPE WITH HOLIDAY SADNESS:
1. Celebrate memories. Keep photos and mementos of
loved ones around to be enjoyed instead of keeping them
out of sight. Use the names of loved ones to be
remembered in daily conversation. Grieve in a healthy
way and teach others to do the same.

2. Surround yourself with people who are more social
than you. They'll talk more and initiate activities,
helping the grieving process by activating life for you.
Remember, grief does not have a time clock.

3. Find others with something in common. Sharing
experiences with others can build relationships.

4. Seek professional counsel if depression seems too
deep or lasts too long. People can be lonely, even in a
crowd, if they are genetically predisposed to loneliness
or sadness. Ask for help.
