Gearing up for the 2009-2010 season of competition is fun for the award winning Cherry Creek High School Pom squad. But the best part of readying themselves comes in the form of training the next generation of Poms. On June 22 through the June 26 the squad will host the Cherry Creek Junior Pom Camp at Cherry Creek High School.
"We love sharing our skills with upcoming dancers," said pomsquad member,
Jillian Siegel, "Lots of our Poms began with Jr. Pom training."And 8 year-old
Mira Weinraub, a veteran camp attendee, is excited to learn more moves. "If you like it now, you might want to be a Pom when you are older," said the second grader at High Plains Elementary. CarlieMorken, pom squad member agrees with Mira. She proudly expressed that she attended three Junior Poms camps and she remembers that "after my first camp, I set a goal for myself to become a Creek Pom." Carlie is excited about her third year on the team.
Weinraub and her sister
Hannah, 6, said their favorite part of camp was the final performance and award ceremony."Anyone can learn to dance. It is so much fun," said Mira Weinraub. That sentiment is shared by the entire pom squad who took their love of dance to new levels this year. They placed in the top ten squads nationally and secured a top ten ranking for the first time ever in the jazz portion of the competition.
