DOWNTOWN LITTLETON CHOCOLATIER CHOCOLATES BY MARY CAROL CHANGES HANDS
Can you get a major publisher for your book, buy a chocolate shop and launch a TV show all in the same year?
This Colorado author & business woman says yes.
Downtown Littleton business owner and Colorado author
Julie Pech has recently purchased long time Main Street favorite shop Chocolates by Mary Carol. Pech, author of
The Chocolate Therapist, hired the chocolate company almost two years ago to make the custom bars in her book/chocolate bar gift set combo. Over time, the two companies worked together to create additional private label chocolates for
The Chocolate Therapist as well.
Pech says there will be changes at the shop-all for the better, of course. First, she maintains, the Chocolates by Mary Carol collection will continue, so not to worry about losing your connection for Mary Carol's world-class toffee. The shop will also undergo a renovation after the holidays to allow room for a larger selection of international chocolates, drinking chocolates and her own "Chocolate Therapist" collection.
The new chocolate line themes off Pech's book
The Chocolate Therapist, designed to help people learn about healthy chocolate eating. Expect to see more dark chocolate, nuts, dried berries, spices and essential oils in the unique and upcoming line, scheduled to launch in the first quarter of 2009. Private-label chocolate manufacturing will also be available, where clients can develop their own chocolates and wrappers and the shop will produce them at wholesale prices.
Ginny Gleason, the shop's former owner, will stay on to manage the shop. Gleason says she couldn't be happier about the change. "It's great for me because I'll be doing the job I love, I don't have to pay the bills AND I'll be paid for it!" Pech is just as happy as Gleason, but for different reasons. "I remember walking in to Chocolates by Mary Carol when I first released my book to ask Ginny if she would carry it in her store. She became one of my best customers and a true friend. The transition should be exciting and positive for all of us."
The timing is perfect as the pilot episode of Pech's new TV show,
The Chocolate Therapist is scheduled to air on November 26 (Channel 53, 7:30 pm). Her book was also picked up by one of the East Coast's most prestigious publishers and the new version will be out late next year, just in time for the holidays. Her credo-for-life seems to be working: If ever in doubt, more dark chocolate.
