Event gives back to volunteers
Contributed by: Cherry Creek School District on 3/10/2008

From bake sales to book repairs, from classroom helpers to committee chairs, hundreds of Cherry Creek School District volunteers are essential in helping the district fulfill its vision of being Dedicated to Excellence.

Earlier this month, school volunteers were honored by the Cherry Creek School District, Parents' Council and the Cherry Creek Schools Foundation, during the Third Annual Exceptional Evening Honoring Volunteers, held at the Hyatt Regency Tech Center.

"These remarkable people are part of the 'excellence equation' in the Cherry Creek School District," said Superintendent Monte Moses. "They support our goal of academic achievement and success for all students by giving generously of their time and talents."

The award recognizes volunteers of the Cherry Creek School District for their dedication to students, faculty and community. Every school in the district submits one nomination for an individual who they consider to be an "Exceptional Volunteer." These individuals are parents, community members or senior citizens.

Wendy DeBell, the District's School-Community Partnership Coordinator, organized the event in concert with volunteer Michelle Beserra and Executive Secretary Michele Walker. Others who helped with the event included Sue Braun, Nancy Jacobson and Linda Shaw.

DeBell told the crowd that they represented the "best of the best."

"You demonstrate the most important inspirational traits of all volunteers," DeBell said. "Thank you for setting the bar high and creating a ripple effect by inspiring and encouraging others to volunteer."
