Wine tasting to help seniors with Alzheimer's
Contributed by: Joyce Haberkorn on 4/2/2008

In the United States, someone develops Alzheimer's disease every 72 seconds. In Colorado there are more than 64,000 people living with a diagnosis of the disease, and several thousand more who have not yet received the diagnosis. The Alzheimer's Association reports that Colorado is one of six western states that will double in the number of Alzheimer's cases by 2020. Christian Living Communities (CLC) lovingly cares for seniors living with this cruel disease, while educating and supporting loved ones.

On April 24 th, CLC donors, friends and volunteers will raise their glasses and get out their checkbooks to help those seniors and their families bravely facing memory impairment. This will all take place during CLC's 3 rd annual Aged to Perfection event-a wine/beer tasting and silent auction benefiting CLC's Memory Support efforts. Money will go toward the purchase of computer programs and equipment clinically proven to help the memory impaired as well as Alzheimer's education and certification training for staff.

During the event, CLC also presents its Community Enrichment Award to a senior who has enriched the lives of those in his or her community by performing exceptional work and service. Last year's winner was Dr. Gary Vander Ark. The 2008 Community Enrichment Award will go to Roland Buteyn.

Mr. Buteyn tirelessly works to help rebuild the community of Gulf Port Mississippi, devastated by hurricanes - spending a few weeks there each month. He also helped build Joshua Station, a transitional family housing shelter, worked for Brother's Redevelopment and had a lengthy career in Christian education, finishing at Denver Christian High School.

The event will be held from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. and is open to the public; individual tickets are $35.00. Participating in the tasting are the Incredible Wine Store located in Greenwood Village, Republic/National Distributing and Great Divide brewery. CLC executive chefs will prepare a pallet-pleasing array of perfectly paired hors d'oeuvres to enjoy while strolling the silent auction. Auction items include a shopping trip to Taos via private plane, art, sports and cultural experiences. If you're interested, call Pam Sullivan at 720.974.3558 or log onto www.christianlivingcommunities.org and click on the event button at the bottom of the page. Please R.S.V.P. by Friday, April 18th.
