Nuba Water Project Hosts Annual Walk for Sudan Sunday, October 18

Nuba Water Project will host the 2nd Annual Walk for Sudan on Sunday, October 18 with special celebrity guest Manute Bol.

The Walk for Sudan is a 5K run/walk that aims to raise funds for projects supporting the people and country of Sudan, which is recovering from 20 years of civil war. Manute is a former NBA player, who held the record for the tallest player for many years at 7 feet, 7 inches tall. Manute is from the Dinka Tribe in Sudan and will speak on behalf of Nuba Water Project.

Because in many areas of the Nuba Mountains women and children have to walk six hours daily to collect water for drinking, bathing and cooking, participants in the walk may choose to carry containers and fill them with water at the Cherry Creek Reservoir, then carry them back to Campus Middle School. By symbolizing the difficult process that burdens many households in Sudan, Nuba Water Project will help to create awareness of the lack of adequate water supplies and raise money towards developing new water infrastructure.

"Celebrate Sudan" will follow the walk and will feature music, food, short documentary viewing, Sudanese dancing, and a silent and live auction. "Celebrate Sudan" will also host "Design UnContained," an exhibit featuring water containers designed by local artists and community members.

To register for the Walk or donate, visit www.WalkforSudan.org. On-site registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the walk will start at 1:30 p.m. The walk will start at Campus Middle School (near Cherry Creek State Park - West Side) at 4785 S Dayton St in Englewood.

Nuba Water Project is a Colorado-based humanitarian organization that works to construct water infrastructure and refugee housing throughout Sudan, and especially in the Nuba Mountains. With the help of businesses and individuals, Nuba Water Project drills wells, installs pipelines and builds rainwater harvesting roofs that supply people with safe, clean water that is desperately needed in the region.
