I took my first trip of the new season to Summit Lake and to the Summit of Mount Evans today, June 13th. What a day! Not a cloud in the sky. There is still a lot of snow up there. Summit Lake is frozen over.
The first place I went was to Summit Lake. After I collected my gear I began to walk over towards the ridge on the far side. When I got to the stone building at the far end of the parking lot, I was surprised to see snow inside piled deep and then I was even more suprised when a Mountain Goat appeared at the door from inside. Luckily I had my camera at the ready.
I took several shots of Summit Lake and the goats. Some of the shots are from about the same position as ones I shot early last September. Quite a contrast. Lots of ice and snow around the lake. I posted thephotos from last September on Yourhub last year.
From the lake I ventured up to the Summit. I gathered my gear and headed to the west end of the parking lot. I saw two mountain sheep making there way across a ridge. I caught several shots of the Mountain Sheep with the snow capped rockies in the background.
Later I started back to the car when I spotted more Mountain Goats around the old stone resturant that was destroyed by a propane explosion many moons ago. I was able to capture several close-ups of the Mount Goats just behind the restroom area.
I had a great day and I got some great photos. My photos are at the Joan R. Duncan Gallery at the Koelbel Library (Holly and Orchard) in Centennial through the month of June. My show is called "I of Colorado", Stephen Johnson Photography. Though the the photos I took today won't be in the gallery there are a few from last September of Mount Evans and Summit Lake.
