'Don't jest sit there like a bump on a pickle'
Contributed by: Julie Doro on 4/29/2007

"Don't jest sit there like a bump on a pickle." With this and a myriad of other catchy - (well, maybe more corny than catchy, but still memorable) sayings, 7th grade math teacher Tiffiny Oliver at RanchView Midddle School livens up a class that many students would otherwise find dry, and occasionally, overwhelming.

Every student in Tiffiny's class has the chance to succeed, because every student knows where they are starting from, and because Ms Oliver sets their sights high. Students are challenged with achievable goals.

Sit in your seat? OK, most of the time, but there's alot of out-of -seat stuff going on as well, as each student not only gains competency in math, but also competency in being their own manager and boss of their schoolwork. Whether it's Turkey Tangrams, Dolly Parton fractions, Cheers for Integers, or yodelling along to a strange math version of "YMCA", that the Village People never knew,Tiffiny keeps math class hopping.
