Steve Shultz here. I am a YourHub.com staff journalist based in Douglas County. I used to write a lot of news stories for the weekly print editions for Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock and Parker, but now I'm mainly focused on the layout and design of said newspapers. In between putting your great stories, blogs, photos and events into the print editions, I will blog about some of the stand-out submissions I see on the Douglas County Web sites –- Highlands Ranch, Castle Rock, Parker, Lone Tree, Castle Pines, Roxborough and Franktown –- and any other topic that piques my interest. If you’re new to YourHub.com, I encourage you to sign up and start your own blog. If you have any story ideas in your community you’d like to share, send me an e-mail. And drop me a comment in the comment box –- bloggers feed off feedback.

Two years of YourHub.com

Wow. Time flies when you work at YourHub.com. Today is my two-year anniversary working here.

I was the first community assistant, hired April 12, 2005. Things were a little different then, as YourHub.com was just being established. We were a brand new project of the Rocky Mountain News, but publisher John Temple and editor Travis Henry knew YourHub.com would be big.

How big? Here are a few figures to give you an idea: YourHub.com is made up of 44 hyperlocal, individual sites, or hubs; we put out 15 weekly print editions encompassing all 44 hubs; more than 3,000 each of stories, events and blogs are posted each month; more than 28,000 people in the Denver metro area are registered users of YourHub.com; and we are syndicated in six states.

Within the past two years, Travis has been invited to almost every journalism conference nationwide to discuss the concept of citizen journalism, how hyperlocal journalism is a wave of the future and how YourHub.com is the best citizen journalism Web site around.

But all these things aren't what make YourHub.com a success. It's you! How can we have citizen journalism without the citizens? The writers, bloggers and photographers of Highlands Ranch, Roxborough and Lone Tree are who make YourHub.com successful. You are YourHub.com!

I would like to personally thank all of you who regularly contribute to YourHub.com, and even those who have only posted one or two stories. I enjoy reading your stories every day, and my goal is to see more and more of your stories told every day. As I reflect on my time as a YourHub.com journalist, I would like to help everyone tell their story.

This would be a great time to ask you, the readers, what you'd like to see more of on YourHub.com. Would you like to read more news articles? Would you like to know more about local events? Would you like to see more school stories in the paper? What about sports? Or health and fitness?

Give me a call at 303-954-2617 and tell me how YourHub.com can better serve you. But remember - we can't do it without you. You can contribute to the community by posting your own stories, blogs, photos and events right to the Web site. Call me or e-mail me at shultzs@YourHub.com if you need help getting started.

Happy Aniversary! You are lucky to have such a great job!

Hey cool I'm glad to be included in your list, Steve!

Congrats!

I wore a tie to my interview, but I think that was the last time. Congrats.

Atta boy, Steve! When YourHub is accepted into the 50th state, you can boast that, like John Hancock, you were one of the "Founding Fathers. "

Happy anniversary, Steve. New mom Melinda didn't have time to bake those cookies I love?

Remember when we all used to wear ties to work? Man, those were the days. Congrats, Steve.

Congrats Steve. I feel like I've been saying that a lot lately.

Congrats on your anniversary, Steve. Judging by your brazen use of exclamation points, you're very excited about being a part of YourHub.com. As well you should be.

All you need is some contacts and a big metal stud through your lip. Then the transformation will be complete...
