You've likely seen spots in favor of Amendment 50. Shots of All-American college kids, with a kind voice-over saying how voting yes will provide much-needed money to provide better community colleges. How cool is that?
Wow, whomever wrote Amendment 50 deserves the Nobel Peace Prize.
WRONG!
What Amendment 50 does is authorize the folks in our gambling towns to raise the stakes from 5 bucks a bet to a hundred bucks, add games like craps and roulette plus stay open 24/7.
Most people who go to Central City or Blackhawk lose money. The odds are always with the house.That's why it's calledgambling. If 50 passes it just means more people will lose more money. Then they skip their mortgage and car payments.
Exactly why we're in the economic mess we're in right now.
I have a relative who used to tell us how each time they went gambling they always won. It was amazing. Right up to the time they had to file for bankruptcy. I do have friends who go to Blackhawk and Central City, they bet a few bucks and have a good time. Sometimes they even make a few bucks. No harm for foul.
Should this stupid Amendment pass, yes, community colleges would get a few bucks. Casinos would get huge piles of bucks.
Amendment 50 is a suck bet for losers. Not for community colleges. Vote NO.
