A political pundit said most of us live life between the 40 yard lines. I'm one of them. Most of the time. Sometimes I'm right of center, sometimes the other way around.

Dances with coyotes?

Saw a report over the weekend where a "Behaviorial Ecologist" suggests we live with and embrace the coyotes that threaten us, our kids and pets.

Dr. Larry Marc Bekoff (Why do I think he went to CU?) suggests coyotes are a very important part of the eco-system.

Not in Highlands Ranch. It's called civilization. No varmints allowed. It's a different story at our mountain home in south-central Colorado. Coyotes are welcome. But not in the city. It sucks to be a coyote sometimes. It really sucks to have to listen to the likes of Bekoff.

Maybe Bekoff hasn't seen coyotes in his front yard as he's preparing to load grandkids into a car. Or lost a pet to these predators.

My ranching friends in Wyoming who raise sheep on a 50-thousand acre operation have a solution when they see a coyote. They get out of the truck, grab a rifle and shoot it.

Good for Greenwood Village for having the good sense to shoot them as well.

It's only a matter of time before a young child is maimed or killed. I doubt that Bekoff will be available for interviews when that happens.

So Dr. Bekoff.....Eff-Off. Go live in the woods and howl and dance with coyotes. Maybe Kevin Costner could play you in the movie.

Gotta agree with you here.

Do you know why the police and hired shooter are using .22 caliber weapons to shoot the coyotes? That seems small, though a "well-placed" shot would kill a coyote or human alike. Several of the shootings have been reported to be woundings and thus unconfirmed as kills, which seems even more dangerous to humans (i.e. having wounded animals running around).
