Imagine my surprise and elation when I opened my YourHub.com and saw the voices piece by
Luisa Bonilla condemning the rumors being spread at her son's school regarding
Barack Obama and his policies.
Finally!! Everyone was beginning to see what I'd seen for years in the public school system: the systematic, ignorant opinions of some people in these schools aimed at political figures.
But alas, my elation was premature. Apparently from the article, Ms. Bonilla's outrage at this type of behavior is only visible when the opinions are aimed at precious Barack Obama!
Well, that bubble burst rather quickly and painfully. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, I would have to assume that her fury over this type of behavior was just as infuriating to her when
Ward Churchill was spouting his political rage preaching to his students anti-establishment, anti-
Bush rhetoric.
Or how about when the Metro State professor asked his students to write an essay about all the things wrong with
Sarah Palin and her policies? Or, dare we say, the maniacal rantings of
Bill Ayres (Barack's friend), who currently teaches at the University of Illinois, who once told the young people of America to "kill their parents."
Where was the outrage when these teachers (not students or their parents or "older relatives") were spilling out the same hateful, opinionated, ignorant views as the people who told her son that Obama was going to change the flag?! I dare say that their views are, in my opinion, twice as damaging and hateful as any that a fifth-grader may repeat during a playful recess period to her son.
I agree with everything Ms. Bonilla says. Yes, it's dangerous when hateful talk spreads to our youth, whether it be to elementary school students OR college students. But, I find it offensive that she only finds it intolerable once it's aimed at Barack Obama. It's offensive, regardless of to whom it's aimed, Ms. Bonilla, including lies told about conservatives.
I don't recall the Metropolitan State University teacher asking the students to write an essay on everything wrong with Joe Biden and his policies! We have had to sit by and listen to college professors and liberal schools spewing hateful "rumors" for the last 8 years, including vicious, cold-blooded attacks, now, on Sarah Palin and her innocent children.
And yet, nobody cares. You want schools to free themselves from "ignorant and insensitive behavior?" Then I have a piece of advice for you, Ms. Bonilla. Practice what you preach. Call C.U., Metropolitan State College, and the University of Illinois. Tell them that ignorance is ignorance, no matter to whom it's aimed, and whether there's an election or not. And guess what? I pay taxes just the same as you.
