I've held off writing this until Senator Kennedy's funeral and he is now buried at Arlington alongside his brothers. I consider it a show of respect.
Unlike that showed, or in this case, not showed by the Democratic Leadership nationally and in Massachusetts.
President Obama, Speaker Pelosi et al are calling for legislation to be named after Senator Kennedy, to "honor" him.
Say what?
Much has been said about Kennedy fighting his entire 47 years in the Senate for "significant healthcare reform." 47 years and nothing. That should tell you something. A lot of Presidents, Senators and members of Congress came and went over those 47 years. Not enough ever bought in.
So much for "Teddycare."
Back home in Massachusetts they'll have an election to elect a new Senator likely in January. Not that many years ago the law allowed the governor to appoint a replacement. But when Senator John Kerry was up for national office, they changed the law because Dems were worried that then Governor Mitt Romney, a Republican, would nominate someone a tad less liberal.
Now they want to change the law again, because with just one vote instead of two from Massachusetts, , things are going to be tight getting the current healthcare "reform" passed, or in this case, rammed down our collective throats.
Akin to having your crabcakes and eating them too.
So much for the "nuclear option."
You can be assured the Democrats won't allow the same circus that surrounded the death of Paul Wellstone from Minnesota. It cost Fritz Mondale whatever chance he had at becoming President.
No, it won't be a circus. Just don't be fooled by the self-serving charade.
