Liz's Blog Log!
Depending on my mood, the alignment of the stars,(you get the idea!), my blog will feature issues that hit home--health, heartwarming stories and humor, not to mention my brain tumor and freelance writing journeys. Feel free to visit my non-profit, Meningioma Mommas at www.meningiomamommas.org Check out my writing website at www.lizholzemer.com if you're interested in up to date information about my first book, (already a Denver best-seller!)CURVEBALL: WHEN LIFE THROWS YOU A BRAIN TUMOR. I'm donating a percentage of every sale to meningioma specific research.

I can't help it!
I have to toot my own horn on this one. After all, where would writers be if they didn't?!
My labor of love,
Curveball: When Life Throws You a Brain Tumor
has won the 2008 Colorado Authors' League "Harvey" Award for Book Length Nonfiction in the Service and Informational category.
Who knew that a book I began in my freshly probed and pummeled mind after surviving two brain surgeries would lead to being rejected by agent after agent, finally finding a publisher that believed in my book as much as I did, and then this?! Surely not me.
It's difficult to adequately express my feelings. My dream to ensure that anyone who ever hears the words, "You have a brain tumor," will never feel alone because of my passion for my life's work is gradually taking shape.
I can't even put the feeling into words as the deciding judge teaches at my alma mater, UC Irvine. Talk about icing on the cake.
"The author maintains reader interest from episode to the next with clear style and easily grasped concepts. The user's manual at the end might be useful for those seeking help with similar medical problems. Light, quirky reading.--
Dr. Juan Bruce-Novoa, Professor of Literature; Director of the University of California Irvine Chicano Literary Prize Contest; novelist, short story writer, poet
.
WOW! Again, who would have thought all because of a funny sounding brain tumor called a meningioma?!

I toute your toot. My son-in-law had a brain tumor, they caught it and were able to deal with it successfully. Tough way to come up with a subject for a book, but congrats on being a survivor and sharing your story in a winning way.
