Blog Entry 1 of 3 New 2 Area....HELP

CHAOS!
Contributed by: Shelby B   on 4/25/2007

Imagine.....

You are a very active family of four. You are in the hospital and have just delivered bundle of joy #3. What a marvelous, excitining, life changing day! But wait! There is one more major life changing event to happen on this wonderful day!! My husband ironically found out that he has received a fantastic promotion that involves us relocating from Dallas to the Denver area ASAP! How's that for a life changing day!!! So, here I am on the Highlangds Ranch Hub reaching out to anyone who may read this on advice on where in HR to live, which schools are best for a 12 and 8 year old, what activities are big for kids in this age group and WHAT in the world this new stay at home mom can do to keep herself entertained while meeting people in the area!!

I am currently the director and coach of a large youth cheerleading program in the Dallas area. I understand youth cheerleading (5-13 year olds) doesn't have the presence there that it does here! So whatever will I do with my time?! Teach a dance class or two maybe? :) My girls do the usual activities....cheerleading, dance, gymnastics, horseback riding. But how is one to know which are the best locations in the area for things like this?!

And where do you even begin on which neighborhoods or subdivisions are the best or which one's to avoid?! Do I even want to know why all of the properties we look up on line seem to stress which direction the front of the house faces???

Any advice that anyone has would be very welcomed and appreciated!! We do not know anyone in the area and are completely at the mercy of the relo company at this point and the advice of total strangers!!

Good luck on the move to HR. I'm guessing the properties list what direction the house faces because the sun can get a little brutal here, so if you want an option of which sun (morning, afternoon, evening) you'd like, you have your choice. HR is a great area. You and your family will enjoy it. PLenty of activities all around.

Congrats on your baby and husband's promotion. Really, there are no BAD places to live in Highlands Ranch. It is a planned community and the HRCA does a decent job of ensuring that no area gets run down. Douglas County Schools are some of the best in the state.
