Politics to life in general, a view from a slightly right of center/off-kilter guy.

Would you sell your vote for 30 cents?
Contributed by: Brian Olson   on 5/5/2008

How much is your vote worth? Hillary Clinton and John McCain think they can buy it for 30 cents.

Both want to have a summer moratorium on the gasoline tax. Which would save you about 30 cents a day. To his credit Barack Obama is against the idea but offers no solutions or alternatives.

Of course, pandering is much easier than coming up with solutions. In fact, Senator Clinton wants the oil companies to pay the tax from their "windfall profits." Sure, oil companies are making major profits in terms of numbers. That's because they are huge international corporations. What isn't being reported is the actual profit margin. Companies like Exxon or Mobil have profit margins around 10% or less. By contrast, companies like Google and Microsoft have profit margins three times that amount.

There's a term for what Clinton is spewing but I'm not allowed to use it here.

John F. Kennedy galvanized a nation with his vision to reach the moon and safely return. We did it. Ronald Reagan galvanized the world when he asked Gorbechev to "tear down that wall." it came down.

We need another leader to stand up and take leadership to truly make us energy efficient. Sadly, no one of that caliber seems to be running this time around. But there is plenty of pandering to go around.

30 Cents for your vote.

How sad. Even Judas got more money than what Hillary and John are offering.
