Politics to life in general, a view from a slightly right of center/off-kilter guy.

Friday beefs and bouquets (A day early)
Contributed by: Brian Olson   on 5/8/2008

I'm spending the next few days in Savannah, GAso I'm not sure I'm going to have much time for blogging because of hanging with the grandkids, eating at Paula Dean'sand visiting several other restaurants and businesses that serve adult beverages. Plus celebrating Brea's birthday and Mother's Day, and sitting on the porch of the lovely home we've rented enjoying a fine cigar. Or two.

So this week's beefs and bouquets come a day early. But you can still read them on Friday or any other day. And yes, we have another goofy website for you to visit.

It's always good to start with a bouquet, this time to our political process. It's goofy I know but I see that Russian's new President was "inaugurated" and promptly gave his old boss, Vlad "the bad" Putin the job of Prime Minister. Which means Vlad will still be running things. I like our system better.

Another bouquet goes to President Bush for his promise to veto what I call the Sodomy legislation just passed by the house. It essentially rewardsirresponsible people who bought homes they couldn't afford. And for the 96% of us who pay our mortages on time, we get the shaft in so many ways, not the least of which is having to help pay other people's mortages along with our own. Bloody shameful.

But a beef and a healthy dose of humanity to all tin-pot dictators, military juntas that abuse human decency. This week's winner, hands down, are the generals that run Myanmar, the disaster former known as Burma. It's estimated a hundred thousand were killed and millions left homeless by a cyclone. Relief agencies are literally minutes away with food, water and medicine. Yet the government isn't letting anyone to help while their people starve.

That said, a beef to the United Nations and this question: "What exactly is it that you do?" You have the mandate, go in there and take care of business. Or would that cut into your tea party schedule?

And another beef to Al Gore who is making millions off of "green scams" who says the cyclone that wiped on Myanmar is the result of global warming. Hey Al, you might want to read what Abe Lincoln saidabout fooling people.

You watch, America is going to take the blame for all this. Shut your pie hole Al. Do something UN.

A huge bouquet to my friends at FOP Falcon in Iraq. They lost two soldiers to an IED last week. Our prayers are with you guys plus lots of boxes of goodies are on the way.

Another bouquet plus lures and juicy worms to the folks in Minnesota. This Saturday is "The Opener" and it's all about fishing. Oh jeez, it's going to be busy on Lake Washington by golly you know.

Another bouquet goes out to Frontier Airlines. We're flying them tonight, and flew them last weekend. Great service, morale is high and we hope you keep flying for years to come. Support Denver's hometown airline, even if some of Denver's hometown businesses won't.

Finally, this goofy site with video on how you can find some cool uses for everything from pampers to jello.

As always, thanks to the gang at OB68, Red, the Cat Lady, Weldon Smoothly and GO BOMBERS! And everyone up in Lac du Bonnet appreciates those weather forecasts.

Ok, I'm off to Savannah. Forecast is for mid to upper 80's the whole time we're there. WOO HOO ya'll.

Do you know it is cheaper and faster to fly to Hawaii from Denver than it is to fly to Savannah? Strange, but true.
