Blog Entry 142 of 215 I blog, therefore I am.
Politics to life in general, a view from a slightly right of center/off-kilter guy.

The Rise and Fall of American Civilization
Contributed by: Brian Olson   on 5/15/2008

Watching ABC's Grey's Anatomy last week, the plot featured a major kissing scene between two guys. Not to be outdone, CBS's Shark featured a major kissing scene between two women.

I thought equal time only applied to politics. (It was announced today CBS has cancelled Shark)

The hot new sport is one step above gladiators fighting in the Roman Coliseum. Two guys are locked in a cage with the goal of one of them beating the other within in an inch of his life. A recent event locally at the Broomfield Events Center sold out. There's big money in blood and violence.

We're also seeing more and more examples of teens ganging up and beating other kids and recording it all for video sharing sites like youtube, or simply to send to each other via cell phone.

Our elected politicians aren't sitting on the sidelines either. Senator Craig of Idaho was busted for hustling a gay encounter in a bathroom in Minneapolis. (You couldn't do this in your home state of Idaho, Senator?) And of source we have now former Governor Elliott Spitzer busted for spending gobs of money on prostitutes.

Here in Colorado drug lords run their businesses from the Supermax in Florence, and scum like Sir Mario Owens order a successful hit while in jail on two people who were going to testify against him. They can do so, because we let them. We don't want to offend the ACLU.

And let's face it, area gangs control many of the urban streets.

All this sounds eerily famliar. It's the decline and fall of Roman civilization part deux.

We're in trouble. Crooks and crooked politicians are in charge. Violence and sex are part of prime time. And it only will get worse.
