Politics to life in general, a view from a slightly right of center/off-kilter guy.

GOP/DEMS: WALK THE WALK!
Contributed by: Brian Olson   on 6/17/2008

Well, both political parties are woefully short of fund-raising goals to throw their convention scams. Denver is at least $11 million short, cancelled an important media walk through and cut planned parties from 24 to 1. Although the job situation might improve, I hear hookers are being recruited for both conventions.

The GOP in Minneapolis is in the same trouble.

Both Mayor Hickenlooper and Governor Ritter have been reduced to crawling on their political bellies to raise funds.

Very shameful when these same people are asking us to conserve, to cut back blah blah blah.

You don't need to turn the Pepsi Center into the Palace at Versailles to tell us what we already know, Obama is your man.

You could send a good message to all of us who live on Main Street that you really do get it, that a lavish blowout while people are having a difficult time buying groceries and or putting gas in their tanks is simply moral equivilent of Marie Atoinette saying "Let them eat cake."

Show us you get it. Show us you have backbone. Show up, eat cheap, double up in hotel rooms, listen to your candidate then go home.

You might actually earn our respect.

I will say this, the L.A. Times wrote a terrific article for anyone who actually can afford to come to the convention, or anything else for that matter. Check it out. But should you sample anything they recommend, bring plenty o' cash.

UPDATE: Project Mileage.

This is getting fun and I'm learning that gentle use of the gas peddle can make a difference as I commute in my 5 cylinder Volvo XC-70 without using that turbo thing.

Monday:
From Highlands Ranch to Lakewood: 26.9 MPG.
From Lakewood to Highlands Ranch: 29.2 MPG (Traffic slowed me down but moved steady)

Tuesday:
From Highlands Ranch to Lakewood: 28.9 MPG

I haven't had to use my AC yet, if in fact it doesget to90 today, I will use it on the way home and that will make a difference. And these mileage numbers are based on what my car's computer is telling me, so I may or not be off. But we'll see.

But so far, slowing down 5 MPH on average, not jamming the gas peddle and coasting when I can is making a difference.

More to come.
