I really thought I'd be furious and/or angry about Rene Marie's
ill-conceived version
of our national anthem at
Hizzoner The Lord HIgh Mayor
of Denver's State of the City address yesterday.
Instead, I'm saddened and disappointed that we've slipped so far as a nation where one can openly insult our nation like Marie did yesterday, or the likes of Wes Clark can insult the heroism of people like John McCain.
Apparently what Ms. Marie sang was the "
Black National Anthem
." Marie refuses to apologize, saying she was just trying to express herself as a black woman living in America. This has nothing to do with race, despite the best efforts of some to say it is.
Grab a soapbox elsewhere Ms. Marie.
She dis-honored Denver, Colorado and the Nation, and once again Denver we'll take another in a long-line of PR hits from all this. And we're still 8 weeks away from the DNC!
Here's the real stink about all this.
1. She'll be a guest on Today, The View and Oprah within a few days guaranteed. Her PR stunt was purely an exercise in self-indulgence, ego and greed.
2. Hizonner The Lord High Mayor of Denver insults our intelligence by charactarizing all this as a mis-understanding. If he had an an ounce of leadership he would have immediately stood up and led the crowd in the actual anthem.The Mayor was blind-sided by Marie. But he should have acted, and the more he delays the worse this gets.If I were him, I'd contact the Rockies and lead the crowd in the Star Spangled Banner at tonight's game.
Or next time hire Roseane Barr.

I'm with you. Why is it that NOBODY did the right version? Why is it that they clapped afterward? IMO, this was a planned event that didn't go the way they wanted - and they had already planned the "response" should it have gone the way it did.
