A political pundit said most of us live life between the 40 yard lines. I'm one of them. Sometimes I'm right of center, sometimes the other way around.

Obama! Invesco! Oh boy! How much?
Contributed by: Brian Olson   on 7/7/2008

Barack Obama confirmed today he will give his acceptance speech at Invesco Field. A brilliant master-stroke and no-brainer all in one. 21,000 insiders, inside vs 76,000 insiders and regular folks, outside. And if they allow grass seating (unlikely because it's football season) it could be as many as 90,000.

Although I truly wonder how many "regular" folks really will be allowed in.

But a heck of a visual. And a venue built for Barack. A Billy Graham Crusade on steroids.

That said, the New York Times reports that the DNC is already way over budget along with being underfunded. It seems that DNC dis-organizers are at least $5-10 million over the projected $40+ mllion budget, which is aleady running way behind in fund-raising.

The math is simple: A deficit of about $20 million. Hizzoner the Lord High Mayor and "Let's make a deal" Goveror Ritter have promised no public funds will be used.

They also have some land off the coast of Florida for sale. Although the Chinese might buy it as part of their off-shore oil drilling operations.

Adding Invesco to the mix will only increase cost and logistical challenges which will add costs to the folks covering the event.

Now the networks and other media will need two complete set-ups. (No, they just can't move everything overnight from the Pepsi Center to Invesco.)

All the major networks will want their own sky boxes to cover the speech, there will be another 150 miles or so of cable to run, another mega-satellite truck compound and of course, all those pesky protestors salivating at this deal.

Who will be let in? Can you imagine security for this kind of open air venue where you'll not only have the nominee, but all the political bigwigs (and hacks) plus a crowd that will far outweigh capacity, even at Invesco.? And of course, there's always weather.

The good news is that the Obama Campaign is quickly taking control from the current DNC dis-organization staff and has tons of dough to pour into all this. We may indeed come away financially unscathed.

All this said, if the Obama Campaign can pull this off, it will be a politically stunning event, arguably one of the best in the history of American Political Campaigns.
