A rare moment for me as I actually salute the Obama Administration for its decision to keep the Feds out of state's business when it comes to the use of medicinal marijuana.
Two Justice Department officials described the new policy to The Associated Press, saying "prosecutors will be told it is not a good use of their time to arrest people who use or provide medical marijuana in strict compliance with state law."
I couldn't agree more.
My wife has Stage 4 cancer, a type of skin cancer in the lung. Not lung cancer but cancer in the lung. There's a difference. Very agressive chemo and radiation seem to be working. My wife hasn't had medicinal marijuana prescribed to her, but a few members of our cancer support group have.
Marijuana in many cases, eases the AWFUL side effects of chemo.
There's a perception that cancer victims given marijuana light up a joint and get loaded. Nothing could be further from the truth, not the least of which being they smoke it.
One group member has cancer of the lower jaw and lymph nodes. The only way way she could use the prescribed marijuana was to grind it up, mix it with skin oil and rub it on her skin. Her skin would then absorb the oils and she'd get some relief.
Another patient who has lung cancer obviously isn't going to smoke anything. In her case the marijuana is delivered in pellet form, like small balls. She swallows the drug and gets the much needed relief she deserves.
Are there people taking advantage of the system to score a free high? Certainly, but not enough that people in desperate need of some relief should be punished.
As hard as it is to believe, the Obama gang is actually taking government out of our lives. Good for them.
Before you start singing "Koombya" we have some issues about the administration's dealing, or dealing from the bottom of the media deck tomorrow.
