Highlands Ranch Days Celebrates Our Western Roots
Contributed by: Julianne Hennings on 8/7/2008

What:

The historic Highlands Ranch Mansion will once again come alive September 4-6 with livestock displays, Native American dancers, a fur trapper, gold panning , wool spinning, mansion tours, horse-drawn hayrack rides, a petting zoo, music and much more!

This year will see the first annual youth western art show by Highlands Ranch 4 th grade Colorado history students. The show will be hung in the mansion for the entire three days of the event. "The Highlands Ranch Cultural Affairs Association provides a wide array of cultural opportunities for all ages. Adding the art show to Highlands Ranch Days not only provides an opportunity to showcase the talents of Douglas County's fourth grade history students but also offers a unique forum for the Cultural Affairs Association to encourage appreciation of the arts," Community Relations Supervisor Jamie Noebel explains.

An enlarged line up on the live western entertainment stage includes Bill Barwick and his Sons of the Tumbleweed Band. Mr. Barwick has lived in Colorado since 1968 and has spent his life ranching and bringing those experiences to the public through his award winning songwriting and performance. Hailed as a cowboy's cowboy-song singer and accompanied by superb guitar work, Bill's singing, songwriting and storytelling are a performance not to be missed! Bill will perform each day from 11am - 12pm.

Wells Fargo's popular horse-drawn stagecoach will arrive on Saturday, September 6 from 10am - 1 pm. Limited rides on the coach will be available for those wanting to step back in time and ride the ranch in style.

Admission to Highlands Ranch Days is kept low by backing from SCFD. Adults (those over 12 years old) are $3. Children ages 3-12 are $1 and those 2 and under are free. All events occur at the mansion, 9900 Ranch Road in Highlands Ranch.

Lions Club Pancake Breakfast
Saturday morning the mansion will be the site for the annual old-fashioned pancake breakfast hosted by the Highlands Ranch Lions Club. From 8:00 to 11am folks can feast on pancakes, sausage, juice and coffee while enjoying the beautiful and peaceful mansion grounds. The admission to the breakfast is separate from admission to the mansion grounds. It is $6 per adult ages 11 and up.
