Students' artwork receives rave reviews

After weeks of work, students at Aspen Academy were able to unveil their class projects at their winter show December 1st.

Students in Aspen's nine classrooms created nine paintings on 24"x48" canvasses that highlight Aspen's nine character development themes for the year, which include: Kindness, Fortitude, Courage, Trailblazing, Initiative, Community, Res Non Verba (deeds not words), Building Relationships and Creative Vision.

The paintings were inspired by artists Rothko and Escher and were done with mixed media including acrylic paint, oil paint, paper, oil pastels, and gold leaf. Students completed all work on the paintings using stencils under the expert guidance of parent Sheila Laurienti. The paintings were displayed behind the students at Aspen's annual winter performance, this year titled "Friends in a Winter Wonderland." The show and the artwork won rave reviews from the attendees.

Two of the paintings titled "trailblazing and initiative" are currently on display at the Starbucks near Founders Blvd. and Front St. in Castle Rock.

The collection of nine paintings will be up for auction this spring at Aspen's second annual Spring Gala May 18th, 2007 at Cherokee Ranch Castle in Sedalia, CO.
