The Colorado League of Charter Schools (the League) has hired Nora Flood as Vice President of School Services, and Jeff Park as Director of New School Development.
Flood will help continue implementation of the League's strategic plan as it relates to school quality and applicable performance standards. She will also oversee the League's school service programs (general member services, business member services, new school support, and quality and accountability) to ensure effective and integrated coordination and service delivery.
"I can't wait to get started," said Flood. "I am committed to working with Colorado's movers and shakers to provide the very best learning opportunities for all children in the state."
Prior to joining the League, Flood was the Director of Sonoma Charter School in California, a role she held since 2004. She also served in a volunteer capacity as the elected North Coast Regional Member Representative of the California Charter School Association. Prior to that, she spent seven years at the Madison Country Day School, including four years as their Head of School.
"Nora's work with the California Charter School Association combined with her school leadership experience makes her an excellent fit for this position," said Jim Griffin, President of the League.
Park will focus on supporting the development of high-quality charter schools across the state with an emphasis on serving urban communities and traditionally underserved students.
Park comes to the League from the Mapleton Public School District where he served as the founder and director of two schools: Front Range Early College High School and Mapleton Preparatory High School. Prior to his work in Mapleton, Park was the founder and director of Skyland Community High School, a Denver charter school. Prior to entering the charter school world, he worked as a curriculum specialist, university-based consultant, and teacher.
"As someone who has benefitted from the services of the League during my own charter start-up experience, I'm excited to be part of such a great organization," said Park. "I'm eager to dive into the important work of helping provide quality school choices to the families of Colorado."
"Jeff's commitment to quality education for all children and his experience in school startup and leadership will be tremendous assets to our New School Development Program," said Griffin.
The League is also saying thank you and farewell to Rich Wenning who has served as its Vice President of Quality and Accountability since 2003. Wenning has been working with the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) on loan from the League for the past several months and has recently accepted a position there as the Associate Commissioner. Wenning's work on the new Colorado Growth Model has helped launch a ground-breaking school performance framework that uses students' academic progress over time as its cornerstone.
"Rich has provided the League with invaluable leadership and direction during his five years of service," said Griffin. "We will miss him, but know that he will continue to contribute to the charter school movement and public education as a whole through his work at CDE."
The Colorado League of Charter Schools is a non-profit, membership organization dedicated to supporting the nearly 150 charter schools in the state. The League is committed to helping these schools reach higher levels of student performance and overall success by providing information and resources, including technical support, advocacy and public relations assistance.
There are nearly 57,000 students attending charter schools in Colorado, which equals 7% of total K-12 public school enrollment in the state.
