Avoid Election Day Congestion
Contributed by: Jennifer Pavlik on 4/3/2008

Why stand in line on Election Day? Stop by your Douglas County Library (303-791-READ, DouglasCountyLibraries.org) by June 15 to get your permanent mail-in ballot application. Douglas County has one of the largest voter turnouts in the state of Colorado. It is estimated that 2008 will be the largest election in U.S. history. With over 137,000 registered voters able to vote on Election Day, there may not be enough space or equipment to accommodate everyone. Help your community out by getting your election materials mailed to you instead - and vote from the comfort of your own home. For convenient and thorough election information, click on " Your Vote Matters" at DouglasCountyLibraries.org.

• The County's new mail-in ballot form (called the "Combination Voter Registration & Mail-In Ballot Application") has several purposes: 1) voter registration, 2) permanent mail-in ballot registration (don't let the word "permanent" fool you, if a voter wants to start voting at a polling place again, they can change their status any time), and/or one-time mail-in ballot registration.
• To remain on the County's list of active voters, you must vote at least every other year (2008, 2010, 2012...), OR fill out a new mail-in ballot form.
• Even if you have signed up for mail-in/absentee ballots in the past, you need to fill out the form to receive forthcoming mail-in ballots.
