Wear your meningioma support on your sleeve
Contributed by: Liz Holzemer on 3/4/2008

Meningioma Mommas' purple awareness bands are back by popular demand. Similar to the Lance Armstrong bracelets, Meningioma Mommas, a local non-profit brain tumor support foundation, is raising much needed research dollars for the most prevalent primary brain tumor--a meningioma. All proceeds will be donated to meningioma research.

"Although ameningioma is primarily a woman's brain tumor, we have a significant number of male membersbattling this disease as well," said Lindy Klarenbeek, who runs Meningioma Mommas with founder, Liz Holzemer.

Holzemer, an eight-year meningioma survivor, created Meningoma Mommas when she was unable to find the support she wished she'd had during her own recoveries. Today, Meningioma Mommas provides support and educational resources to over 2,700 "mommas" and "poppas" locally, nationally and internationally.

Meningioma Mommas has already raised $90,000 for meningioma specific research and one day hopes to reach its goal of raising $1 million to understand this mistakenly labeled benign tumor, which is not without its deficits including epilepsy, paralysis, and life long fatigue.

The bracelets are $5 each with a miniumum order of one.
