It's time for the Connections Therapeutic Riding Center "Destiny Fun Run". Saturday, July 19th, the trails in and around Cherry Creek State Park, will be the paths to raising money for Connections so they can continue their work with the magic horses and autistic children.
The power, presence, and intelligence of horses brings profound benefit to these young riders. Sometimes the results are rapid, sometimes gradual and incremental, but the moment you see horse and child connect, you know you are experiencing something magical. The majority of the therapy horses at Connections are rescue horses that come from neglectful settings and they seem to know their purpose in working with each child and are grateful for their existence.
The children who come to Connections seem to feel the magic of the horses, too. Their individual challenges and needs in dealing with autism are met with kindness and encouragement which brings forth confidence and independence in each little heart. Their verbalization increases, they find their physical strength, and gain control over body awareness, bringing smiles to their faces and warmth to the hearts of each parent.
Connections' goal is to build their own facility equipped with training rooms to supplement the progress being made in riding sessions, as well as increase the number of horses saved from abuse and neglect. Saving horses and saving children go hand-in-hand at Connections.
Join us at Cherry Creek State park on Sat. July 19th at 8:30am and run for the horses and kids! The original sign-up deadline of Wed. July 9th has been withdrawn and you can now just show up, sign up, and run! Entry fee for the run is $25 and there is an $8 charge for entry into the park. If you'd like to gather sponsors and additional funds for donation, please go to the Connections website at www.connectionstrc.org and click on the "What's Happening" page for a downloadable sign-up form.
The children thank you, the horses thank you, and I thank you! Now go get your running shoes on!
