Tulip tree donated to Littleton's Sterne Park
Contributed by: Don Buelow on 7/9/2008

On Saturday morning, June 7, 2008, the Christian Science Church of Littleton donated and planted a Tulip Tree in Sterne Park. A sizable number of members were on hand to be involved with the activity. This event is another of our church's on-going celebration of 100 years in the progressive Littleton Community.

We are grateful to the South Suburban Park and Recreation District, Scott Grimes, and his people, in their assistance in the selection and planting of the Tulip tree. We all wanted a tree of permanence, beauty and shade. The tree will help shade volley ball players, other activities, and the South Shelter area in the future.

A Tulip tree can grow 80 to 100 feet tall and maintains a fairly narrow crown even as it grows older. The scented, tulip like, greenish-yellow flowers appear in mid spring and the fall color is gold to yellow.

In our Centennial Celebration, our Christian Science members felt the tree's roots and branches symbolize our outreach of love to our neighbors in the Littleton community. A flowering tree, whose blossoms in the spring, gives color and clarity to the earth typifies the loveliness and goodness of God's nature.
