The gym's not so scary...unless you rip your pants

Why is it that some women are afraid of working out at the local gym? Some say it's because they aren't sure of how to use the equiptment, for others it's the fear of looking bad in their gear.
I've even been told a few times that the men kind of intimidate them with their buldging biceps.
So how do we fix this problem? Just try to remember these simple things. Number 1: Most machines will have usage directions on them and there should always be someone working nearby to ask. Or , be brave and ask the closest set of tight abs you can find. That's your reward for getting up the courage to go in and try it out.
Number 2: Stop worrying about how you look in your clothes. You are there to exercise, not to enter a pagent. Some basic sweats and a t-shirt are fine for the purpose. Skip the make-up, it usually runs with sweat (or tears if your having a real moment...) and it takes up valuable workout time putting it on.
Now, I have seen a pair of pants split before, Ok, so they were my pants... I shouldn't have been trying to stretch like I was while wearing them! But even I got over that, after laughing hysterically at myself for 2 days. Just make sure you wear something fitting to your type of workout.
Number 3: Not all men are full of muscle and sex appeal. You will see some that are trying just as hard as you are to lose some weight or tone some tough spots. They aren't all born with well defined pecs and quads to kill for. Some even have to work for it....imagine that.
Just remember, most people that look the way the gym poster child looks have had to work for it. They might have started out where you are now or even farther back than that. Be proud of what you are there to do and get the job done.
You never know, some day it could be you in the tiny top and shorty shorts (probably wearing make-up!) climbing your heart out on the stair stepper and talking on your cell phone. Until then, work hard and keep your sense of humor with you at all times... just in case you split your pants.
