Advice for losing weight: Stop trying so hard

One of the reasons most people quit trying is to lose weight is because they're killing themselves doing it! It's quiet funny if you think about it. Every popular magazine has an article every month on how you can "lose that tummy flab in 2 short weeks" or "melt away your love handles while eating a juicy ribeye." Why don't they just tell you to roll around in butter and then stick plastic wrap to your thighs and sweat it out. Don't try that! It won't work.
Ok, so if you really want to lose weight you have to remember one very important thing. You are an
individual
. Not every diet or workout will work for every body type. People will try every diet or exercise tip they read to accomplish a goal and most of the time it is not what will work the best for their body. I am a 5 foot tall woman with a small frame and weighed over 200 pounds for several years.
Like most people, I read every crazy article and tip I could and only ended up miserable and overweight. I would lose a few pounds and gain them back, and
not
because I was overeating. Finally I decided that the emotional aspect of wanting to change myself was enough of a reason to do the work myself and stop listening to the size zero magazine columnists giving me advice.
I put the time and effort into studying the human body and muscular system and started to train myself according to what I needed. I joined a gym and worked hard and was eventually able to lose 110 pounds. I then got my personal training certification and started a support group to help others get through the battle that weight loss can be. It's been 5 years and two babies later that I've kept the weight off, topping off at about 117 pounds.
I love what I do and have a great appreciation for the people struggling to get healthy. Please just remember that everyone is different and not everything you read is going to help you.
My name is
Lynda Pichulo
and I am the mom of 4. I am a personal trainer with a specialization in training women. I have taught express tone, cardio muscle, butts and guts and kickboxing classes at a local gym. I now do private in home or gym training.
