CAMERA PERSON/INTERVIEWERS NEEDED
If you've ever wanted to be a part of history, now is your chance! You can become a professionally trained camera person, no experience required. All that is needed is a desire to help and work with veterans by filming their stories. If you would rather talk one-on-one with veterans, you can also be trained as a professional interviewer to learn the best methods to help veterans tell their stories.
Volunteers of America's RSVP program (a volunteer program for individuals 55 or better) is in need of individuals who are interested in donating time to the national Veterans History Project in the Denver area. Veteran's stories, once digitally recorded, are sent to the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. The recordings are archived with other WWII, Korean, and Vietnam veterans' war stories and personal histories-documenting a time where the sacrifices of our brave men and women of service helped to reshape the face of our globe.
Nancy Ford, a 22-year veteran of the film/video business and local film/video producer, is the Lead Volunteer on this project. Nancy donates her time and resources to train and mentor new volunteers on how to work as a team to record the veterans' stories. The training usually consists of 14 hours of one-on-one or small group instruction. Nancy has worked on the Volunteers of America's RSVP Veterans History Project since its beginnings and has watched it grow into a program that has not only ethical integrity in its service of the vets, but professional excellence. The digital recordings are of the highest quality and will be available for use to not only the families, but to educators and researchers throughout the world. Volunteers remain very enthusiastic about the importance of this project to veterans, as well as the personal fulfillment gained by assisting with such a worthy endeavor.
If you would like to know more about the Veterans History Project and would like to sign up for the next training please contact Stephanie Samora (RSVP Project Manager) at 720-264-3311 or ssamora@voacolorado.org.
