Douglas County Sheriff David Weaver was pleased to announce that one of his patrol teams received the DC Cup Team Award for their creation and participation in teambuilding programs.

Douglas County sets itself apart with the high standards that are set and achieved on a daily basis. The County also encourages employees to work together to find new and innovative ways to solve problems and improve the overall delivery of services to our community.

The DC Team Cup Award recognizes employees who participate in teams that make significant contributions to the improved operations of Douglas County.
Specifically these teams would enhance the Vision, Mission, or Strategic Initiatives of the County or their department.

Chief Holly Nicholson-Kluth nominated this team for the award; Sgt Max Young and Sgt Craig Brinkworth wanted to find ways to increase morale and develop team cohesion during operations where the team would gain knowledge and better themselves.

Two operations were undertaken by them and their entire patrol team. The first was a series of Sheriff's Office Trivia sessions directly after briefing between the patrol and detention division.

The winner of those was allowed to make the loser work with them for a shift. The goal was to develop working relationships with colleagues in other divisions and to develop team cohesion. The detentions division ultimately lost, and their team had to wash cars for the patrol team.

However, the patrol team decided to work a detentions division shift anyway. The outcome was that the deputies became familiar with the inner operations of the detention division and developed relationships with these co-workers they would not have otherwise.

The second operation was a team entry into the voluntary fitness challenge at the Sheriff's Office. This was a pilot program that entailed voluntary fitness testing and a six month challenge to improve fitness scores.

Approximately 30 individuals signed up and the two Sergeants convinced their entire team to enter. The testing included two rigorous days that involved a 1.5 mile run, obstacle course with a five foot wall and 175lb dummy drag, as well as a variety of strenuous activities. The entire team finished the testing and supported those that were less fit.

These two Sergeants and their team have epitomized a positive and influential team effort, which impacted not only their team but set a great example for all those around them.

"We are no longer in the era of police officers existing behind the wheel of a patrol car. The members of this team are not only good role models for others within the Sheriff's Office but also to all officers nationwide", stated Sheriff Weaver.

Team includes: Sergeant Max Young, Sergeant Craig Brinkworth, Deputies Kim Pepping, Don Lightfoot, James LaKomy, Dan Potter, Tom Staples, Eric Vetter, Chuck Vernier, Greg Howden, Charles Curry, and Derek Castellano.
