Welcome home Lance Corporal Joshua Burke!

Burke returned home to Highlands Ranch Dec. 16 to his proud parents, David and Cheryl. His parents say he's a hero.

Joshua has been recommended for the Navy Achievement Medal for Valor. He was credited with saving the life of one of his fellow Marines. Joshua applied tourniquets to the legs of a Marine whose legs had been injured by an IED.

"Thanks to his fast response, the Marine made it out," said David Burke.

His father said he's proud of his son, who was stationed for seven months in Al 'Ubayd in the Anbar Province.

"My wife and I are very proud of Joshua and what he accomplished in Iraq," he said. "He saw the worst, and best, of what mankind has to offer. He endured temperatures that soared as high as 135 degrees and sometimes didn't get to take a shower for over a month. They had no cooking facilities and ate MRE's (meals ready to eat) every day. They had to deal with the infamous camel spiders that would literally take chunks of flesh if they bit you."

Joshua's unit is scheduled to return to Iraq but a date has not been yet. David Burke said he expects Joshua to fit in plenty of skiing during his return to Colorado.
