Kids Mobility Network helps kids with disabilities
Contributed by: Erin Feese/YourHub.com on 9/18/2008

When Peter Kopp's daughter outgrew her first wheelchair, Kopp realized another family could benefit from the almost-new piece of equipment. When he looked for a organization to donate the wheelchair, he couldn't find one, he said.

So in 2005, Highlands Ranch residents Kopp and his wife Christy founded the Kids Mobility Network, a nonprofit that helps kids with disabilities get the durable medical equipment, such as walkers and wheelchairs, that they need.

"Kids outgrow their equipment so fast, and it's often in great condition, just too small for them to use safety," he said. "So we recondition the equipment and give it to families who need help."

During the month of September, Kids Mobility Network is partnering with Lone Tree-based Jenny's Market for a fundraiser. Jenny's Market is looking to strengthen their image as a community partner and wanted to do something for a local charity, so they approached Kids Mobility, Kopp said.

At all 35 Jenny's Market location around Colorado, store employees are asking patrons if they would like to donate to the organization, and on Wednesdays in September, the market donated 100 percent of their drink and coffee sales to Kids Mobility.

"We are very grateful for their generosity," Kopp said.

Even for families with insurance, equipment costs can be daunting, he said. The wheelchair he recently purchased for his 10-year-old daughter cost $6,000, with insurance paying for only $2,000 of it. Power wheelchairs can cost up to $25,000, Kopp said.

"These kids deserve everything we can do for them," he said.
