ThunderRidge homecoming includes 'super' donation
Contributed by: Erin Feese/YourHub.com on 9/26/2008

Hundreds of Ninja Turtles, Hulks, Spidermen and Batmen crowded onto the bleachers of ThunderRidge High School on Sept. 25, screaming and stomping their feet. The students were decked out in superhero garb for the annual homecoming assembly.

The event kicked off with a donation of $5,312 to the Highlands Ranch Veteran's Monument. The donation was made in memory of Chris Falkel, a 2001 ThunderRidge graduate who was killed in Afghanistan while serving in the military. A check was presented to Falkel's parents.

Each year, students choose a homecoming charity as a means of giving back to the community. ThunderRidge students have been gathering donations by selling U.S. flags and collecting change to benefit the veteran's monument, located at Civic Green Park, 9370 Ridgeline Blvd.

After the presentation, each class performed a cheer and song playing upon the superhero theme. Freshman were Ninja Turtles, sophomores were The Hulk, juniors Spidermen and seniors, Batmen.

Shouts of "We've got spirit! Yes we do! We're got spirit! How 'bout you?" rang through the gym as the classes taunted one another.

Then the games began. Students, representing their respective grades, competed in events such as an obstacle course and three-legged, relay, sack and sleeping bag races.

ThunderRidge played its homecoming footballgame at Shea Stadium on Sept. 25 against Ponderosa, winning 31-28.
