In the next 12 years the aging adult population in Colorado is expected to increase by 539,614. And, just over 10 million Americans, or nearly one-third of the elderly, need some type of long term care, according to the U.S. Census. Senior Resources of Broomfield, Inc., is the $1,000 May recipient of Applewood Plumbing Heating and Electric (www.applewoodfixit.com) "Caring Community 12 in 12 Giveaway."
"Applewood is proud to be able to give to Senior Resources," said John Ward, owner of Applewood. "I think this organization provides a vital service in the community, especially for those of us with aging family members."
Each month Applewood selects a local nonprofit in the community to award $1,000. Receipts of the award are nominated either online or by mail and then selected by Applewood. Senior Resources is a Denver nonprofit who assists seniors in the community.
"This is so important; I can't even tell you how thrilled I am. We have so many fundraisers and many times corporations say they are going to help," said Mary Juszynski of Senior Resources. "Applewood actually helped. They are helping make it possible for us to feed the hungry, that's what they're doing."
The mission of the Center is to enhance the lives of seniors in the community by providing a variety of services for older adults and their families. In doing so the Center hopes to encourage seniors to share their talents and skills with the community.
The $1,000 from Applewood will be used to fund services such as the Meals On Wheels Program, whose costs have increased from $800 to $1,000 per month.
"I never thought that they would call and then they did," said Juszynski. "Applewood is going to reach out to almost 500 people."
Applewood Plumbing Heating & Electric has served the Denver/Boulder Metro area for more than 35 years. The company has consistently been rated one of the nation's top 10 service companies by their customers and has achieved the Nexstar Network Select Service designation and the 2007 City of Golden Rotary Club's Ethics in Business Award.
For more information or to nominate a local nonprofit for the "Caring Community 12 in 12 Giveaway," call 720-249-5145 or go to www.applewoodfixit.com.
