AMERICAN FLAG BURNED
A deputy responded to an incident of criminal mischief on the 9500 block of High Cliffe Street in Highlands Ranch at 10:40 a.m. Aug. 18. A 55-year-old woman told the deputy that someone had tried to set fire to the American flag displayed in front of their home the previous night. The woman said her husband was taking out the trash at 6:30 a.m. when he noticed two burn marks on the bottom of the flag. The couple estimated the damage at $50. Sheriff's deputies had no suspects at the time of the report.
APARTMENT ROBBED
A man told a sheriff's deputy his apartment on the 8300 block of North Highway 85 was robbed at 5 p.m,. Aug. 18. The 20-year-old man told the deputy he left for work at 6:45 a.m. and left his back window open to get some air. When he returned at about 4:30 p.m. he noticed his 26-inch HDTV, Sony Playstation 3, five games, a laptop computer, a pair of speakers and a Scarface movie poster had been taken from his apartment. The man estimated the value of his belongings at $1,980. Sheriff's deputies had no suspects at the time of the report.
GUN RECOVERED
A deputy investigated a suspicious vehicle parked at the AMC Theater, 103. W. Centennial Blvd., in Highlands Ranch at 11:20 p.m. on Aug. 17. The deputy noticed that the truck was parked away from the other vehicles and had its parking lights on. The deputy discovered a man and a woman in the truck and had the couple get out of the truck. The deputy asked the 19-year-old man if he had any weapons on him and the man told him he had a pocketknife in his pocket. The deputy searched the man, found the knife and also discovered a copper colored bullet in the man's possession. The deputy searched the truck and found a black Sig Sauer handgun in the cab with its serial number filed off. The deputy inspected the weapon and discovered that the gun's serial number had also been removed from the inside of its barrel. The man told the deputy that the handgun belonged to a friend who just moved to a bad neighborhood in Denver. The deputy arrested the man and he was taken to Douglas County Jail.
AMERICAN FLAG STOLEN
A man told a sheriff's deputy someone stole an American flag that was displayed in front of his home on the 8000 block of Greenspointe Lane in Highlands Ranch at 4:53 a.m. Aug. 14. The man told the deputy he was asleep when someone rang his doorbell at 4:30 a.m. When he answered the door, no one was there and the he noticed the flag was gone. The man valued the flag at $12.99. Sheriff's deputies had no suspects at the time of the report.
