House nearly ablaze in greenbelt fire
Contributed by: Dawne Michelle Farmer on 7/5/2008

We had just sat down to eat dinner on the deck in our backyard when we saw smoke beginning to rise from the greenbelt up behind Northridge Elementary.

We grabbed our camera and shot photos of the entire event. At first it appeared to be a small brushfire but quickly escalated into a nearly tragic event as several homes were threatened.

The peak of the fire was when a pine tree caught fire in a backyard and set the house on fire next door just as fire crews were arriving. The fire appeared to be dying down once, but then the wind picked up and it raged on sending onlookers running away in a panic as it spread down the hill.

The fire almost reached the fence to the backyards of around a dozen homes.
