My name:
Jack Hilbert
Age: 54
Running for: Douglas County commissioner
My family: Married for 34 years to my high school sweet heart. We have two sons,
Jack II &
Jassen, both of whom graduated from Ponderosa High School here in Douglas County.
What I do: I currently work as a Global Capture Manager for Avaya (formerly Lucent & AT&T). My wife and I also have a small HOA management business.
My favorite place in Douglas County to hang out: The War Horse Restaurant and any golf course.
What I like most about living here: The people, the open space, trails and recreational opportunities. I love the fact that we have young families with children and a diversity of housing options that allow their grand parents to live near by. Seeing them on the trails and enjoying the community benefits is great.
My interests and hobbies: Golf, fishing, hunting, public service.
What is my favorite thing to cook: A Meat based spaghetti sauce made from Round steak spread with lard, tenderized and rolled with garlic, parsley and hot peppers. Use hand crushed tomatoes, add the tomato sauce, make the home made meat balls, deep fry the Italian sausage links and serve with home made noodles. Takes all day but what a treat. The heartburn last all night!
People who inspired me (and how): My Mother because there was never anything wrong, just another opportunity to do it the right way. My High School Football Coach who showed how hard work and being honest to your self is the greatest contribution to a team effort; my Church Priest (
Ralph Pinto) who helped to understand the issues of humanity and the importance of family; and my Father-in-Law who is the Dad I never had.
How I have contributed to the community: I enjoy serving and have a supporting wife who helps me. In addition to serving on Parker's Town council, I have been an HOA President, Director for several Metro Districts, Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus, and work with the Rotary Club, Optimist Club, Parker Historical Society and Elk.
What are the biggest issues facing Douglas County now: Keeping our sense of Community. If we let the problems of water and transportation consume us we will forget about what it is all about - children and families. We can keep that since of community by listening to the citizens and inviting the community to participate in developing the vision, solutions and the plans for how we want our community to be. Solutions created in a vacuum have tendency to benefit only a few.
