Governor Ritter attends the ThunderRidge High School Energy City of Highlands Ranch Press Conference
On April 24, 2008, ThunderRidge High School (TRHS) conducted the second annual Clean Tech Energy Day event that consisted of an alternative fuel auto display, energy presentations conducted by local energy experts and a press conference.
TRHS senior, Will Palamet made the announcement at the press conference that after a unanimous vote by the 16 seniors taken a couple of weeks ago, they decided to place the Energy City of Highlands Ranch incorporation issue on the November ballot by the year 2010.
Governor Ritter attended the press conference event and remarked to the crowd and media that the seniors are tackling the tough energy problems that we all face today and what they are doing is showing leadership and heading in the right direction.
Clean Tech Energy Day was hosted by the 16 TRHS seniors who teamed together last October to develop and refine the Energy City of Highlands Ranch business plan. The seniors worked with local LEEDS building architects, wind and solar experts and a national investment bank company.
The seniors have honed their energy city business plan to get the city of Highlands Ranch off the grid by the year 2020. This would require an energy incubator, which would be a city-owned clean-tech laboratory and the incubator will offer clean-tech/wet lab research and development facilities and mentoring services to energy-related startup companies.
Next years senior project researchers will be aligning with local and state government leaders to get the energy city incorporation issue on the November ballot. In addition, they will be launching Colorado's first-evercompressed natural gas automobile home fueling garage pilot program.
