On May 5,2008, fourteen students and two staff members from Heritage Elementary cut their hair for the school's second annual
Locks of Love donation event. A stylist from the Jack and Jill Salon of Park Meadows lent a hand by cutting the 10-inch hair braids for donation. Locks of Love is a non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to children suffering from long-term medical hair loss due to various illnesses. The hairpieces help restore the children's self-esteem and confidence.
This event is just another way for Heritage students to put their
Character Education Program into action. Each month, throughout the school year, students have learned about a different character trait. The Locks of Love event gave the students an opportunity to demonstrate the character trait of
compassion. The annual event is organized by Science Teacher Jaime Logsdon.
