Highlands Ranch duo to play Fourth of July show
Contributed by: Steve Shultz/YourHub.com on 7/2/2008

A Highlands Ranch-based band plays about 90 gigs a year, but hardly any within the Douglas County community. They hope that will change after a Fourth of July concert at the Town Center.

Pairadeux, as the name suggests, is a male-female duo who perform rock covers as well as originals. The group consists of singer Elizabeth Connell, aka Miss E, and singer and multi-instrumentalist Neil Zimmerman. Pairadeux will be performing at the Highlands Ranch Community Association's Independence Day Celebration from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Town Center, 9288 Dorchester St.

Connell said they have performed all over the metro area, as far south as Canon City and also parts of Wyoming and Montana. She said they play most often in Golden and Pine, where they have a big following.

While there are not many music venues in Highlands Ranch, Zimmerman said Lodo's Bar and Grill and Lansdowne Arms are great places to play. They've performed before at Lodo's, 8545 S. Quebec St., and will play Lansdowne Arms, located in the Town Center, in August. Zimmerman says the July 4 show helped the duo land the Lansdowne Arms gig.

"It's been a little bit tough because of the lack of venues," Zimmerman said. "But we certainly want to work in the community in which we live. We're hoping the Fourth of July show will be a springboard for that."

Zimmerman, who has lived in Highlands Ranch for about 12 years, said the community is still young; however, with so much retail "springing up" around residences, he said he is confident there will be more venues for live music in the near future.

"Ultimately, you want people to hang out and enjoy the music -- make a night out of it," he said. "This is what we're looking for."

Connell has lived in Highlands Ranch for about a year. Pairadeux has been together since 2003.

Zimmerman said he considers Pairadeux a "technologically enhanced duo." Both members sing, and Zimmerman plays guitar and a Roland Loop Station, which acts as a drum machine and repeats riffs and melodies created live on stage to give the effect of multiple guitars.

"Even though we are a duo, we try to sound as much like a full band as possible," he said.

Connell said they like to cover rock tunes from all eras, so everybody hears something they like.

"We play rock covers from Elvis to Incubus, from The Beatles to The Fray and everything in between," she said.

Zimmerman said, "As a live act, that's primarily what we do is the cover material. That's what people really want to hear."

While Pairadeux primarily is a cover band, they do write some originals. They have two CDs out now -- Up in the Air and Pairadeux Under Cover. They will debut their third CD -- Pairadeux Under Cover, Part Deux -- during their July 4 show. All their albums have a mix of covers and originals. Their music can be purchased on their Web site or iTunes.
