Local band brings 'movement' to area code
Contributed by: Kayla Kohake on 7/15/2008

A recent discovery has put new meaning into the number sequence 303. It is no longer just numbers to be punched into the phone, but the name of the next up and coming band to represent our local district.

Two graduates from Columbine High School and an upcoming senior at Heritage High School have taken their experiences in today's world of difficulties and put them into words that reach everyone from teens to older adults.

C.B., Dr. Seuss, and DJ Hibryd are known as the 303 Movement. The name of their band tells the story of it all. What started as a just a few sound bites between friends underground spread and grew like wild fire to every local teenager, just by word of mouth. It has been less than a year and they have successfully established themselves and who they want to be.

"We had no expectations," C.B. said. "We thought the music wouldn't even get out of the basement."

What's unique about the 303 Movement is the way they approach their music from all angles. They knew not to be tied down to a single genre which is the reason for their growing popularity. Even though their main focus is rap, some of their other hits are R&B and rock style.

"We are not the typical rappers and we don't let people pick our appearance," Dr. Seuss said.

As three white teenagers, they are considered to be one of the most diverse groups trying to become a hit in the hip hop club scene. They take the stage at any performance armed with powerful music lyrics that are as impressive as their determination to succeed in sharing them.

"Our music comes from half experience and half 'just us,'" C.B. said. "We are just crazy, crunk white boys."

The love of Colorado and hip hop the 303 Movement shares has given other local teenagers a new appreciation of Denver, and that's the motivation for this band to stay true in representing their home town. However, they are expected to soon become known nationally having already preformed at the local theaters, talking with local radio stations, and making connections with celebrity artists.

After preforming live at a local volunteer organization, they finished leaving the crowd speechless, which was exactly their intent. Even if there were words that could express the originality and talent these boys have, no one would be able to hear them because as soon as the music stopped the audience replied with a loud applause of approval. This is the next greatest thing to come out of Denver, and finally a newfound raw talent has been revealed.
