The next Douglas County Household Chemical Roundup will be held in Highlands Ranch on Saturday, July 26, at the Shea Stadium, 3270 Redstone Park Circle, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm.
Leftover paint products and solvents, motor oil, antifreeze, vehicle batteries, house and garden chemicals, fire extinguishers, fireworks, ammunition, mercury, propane and passenger vehicle and pickup truck tires will be accepted for recycling or proper disposal.
The event is offered free-of-charge to residents of Douglas County, however participants are asked for a voluntary $20 contribution to help offset the high costs of hazardous waste disposal, which can cost more than $100 per household through a private company.
There will also be a FREE Drop-and-Swap area where people can share leftover household cleaners, paint products, car wax, antifreeze, fertilizer and garden products that are still in their original containers. Sharing these products helps the environment, since the products get used up, rather than becoming part of landfill trash. The Drop-and-Swap also helps reduce the Roundup's disposal costs.
The Roundup CANNOT accept waste from businesses, or radioactive waste, smoke detectors, empty drums, asbestos, tractor tires, explosives stronger than fireworks, any compressed gases other than propane, or electronic waste (computers, TVs, VCRs, printers, etc.).
This Roundup welcomes all residents of Douglas County. Participants will be asked to show a driver's license, utility bill, or phone bill to verify their address. Residents may register in advance online at www.tchd.org. Participants that register in advance will receive more detailed information prior to the event and help the events run more efficiently.
This event is sponsored by Castle Pines North, Castle Pines Village, Centennial Water & Sanitation District, Douglas County, High Prairie Farms Metro District, Highlands Ranch Metro Districts, Parker Water & Sanitation District, Plum Creek Wastewater Authority, Town of Castle Rock, Town of Parker, Stonegate Village Metro District, Waste Connections - Jordan Road Transfer Station, and Tri-County Health Department.
The City of Lone Tree administers a separate household hazardous waste collection program, call: 1-800-449-7587.
Arrangements have been made to make the Roundup accessible for people with disabilities. Call Greg McConnell at Tri-County Health Department, (720) 322-1541.
For more information, visit www.tchd.org/householdchemical.htm or call the 24-hour Household Chemical Roundup InfoLine at (303) 846-6249.
