A Douglas County couple's passion and dedication to improve the learning skills of challenged students and adults is bringing about some remarkable improvements.
Claudette and Perry Anderson opened Prescription for Success, an educational diagnostic testing and learning center, in their Parker home in January of 2008. They use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools to uncover the reasons behind learning problems and then develop individualized programs for their clients so they become confident and successful learners.
Connie Castle, a Kiowa resident, became a true believer after she saw the results in her son, a 22-year-old who suffered from dyslexia and went to Prescription for Success in the spring of 2008.
"After what he's gone through over the years, being dyslexic, it was like a miracle," she said. "Claudette and Perry Anderson are the nicest people, and they really, really care about what they do. They are the real deal."
Castle said her son completed comprehensive testing before he started the "BrainMastery" Program for Dyslexics offered by the Andersons.
"He tested extremely gifted with a lot of memory issues and definite dyslexia traits," she said. "In a matter of a few days, he was reading and writing at average speed and went to a job interview and was told he was the best interview they had had all week. . . . He was hired on the spot."
The changes in her son came about after just five days of working with the Andersons, she said. Not only could her son now read smoothly, but she said his demeanor changed from shy and insecure to confident.
Castle's son is just one of the success stories involving students and adults from Parker, Castle Rock, Highlands Ranch and Elbert County who have gone to the learning center because of problems with dyslexia, attention deficit disorder, reading, memory and processing information.
The Andersons attribute much of their success to the fact that they attack learning difficulties from three different approaches - cognitive learning or intellectual abilities, sensory-motor integration such as balance issues, and perceptual skills, which are both visual and auditory.
Clients also are tested thoroughly. Those who are between 6 and 8 years old must take two hours of assessments, while those ages 9 and older must take a four-hour comprehensive exam. This testing helps the Andersons get to the root of the learning difficulty so that they can develop the best plan of action.
"We aren't a franchise. We aren't a big name. But we do powerful things here," Claudette Anderson said. "We are the most comprehensive learning center in Douglas County."
