HRHS graduate gets his wings
Contributed by: Lynne Hunt on 6/30/2008

LTJG Spencer S. Hunt of Highlands Ranch recently received his "wings," officially becoming an aviator in the United States Navy. Hunt is a 2002 graduate of Highlands Ranch High School.

LTJG Hunt will report to Naval Air Station San Diego where he will undergo several months of training on the Seahawk 60F. The Seahawk is a carrier-based, twin-engine helicopter. It is used for anti-submarine warfare, search and rescue, drug interdiction, anti-ship warfare, cargo lift, and special operations.

After training in San Diego, LTJG Hunt will be assigned to Naval Air Facility (NAF) Atsugi, Japan. NAF Atsugi is the largest naval air base in the Pacific. It houses the squadrons of Carrier Air Wing 5, which currently deploys with the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk. In September 2008, the Kitty Hawk will be replaced by the USS George Washington, a Nimitz class nuclear-powered super carrier.

LTGJ Hunt graduated from The United States Naval Academy in 2006. He received his degree in mechanical engineering with a concentration in thermodynamics. He will be stationed in Japan for three years.
